Mexico’s Aniq announces carrier certification program

Aniq, Mexico’s chemical association, has launched a carrier certification program. Nineteen applications for certification have been received from Mexican trucking companies, according to Alfredo Romero, director of distribution and operating services at Grupo Celanese. The program, which was launched this year, is intended to promote more reliable and safe chemical transport, Romero told those attending Mexico Transporta 2002 June 11-13 in Mexico City.

The Aniq program offers three levels of certification. Level three is a very basic package of requirements, while level one covers the full range of Aniq transport requirements. Carriers must be audited, and the names of those that achieve certification will be published by Aniq. "We believe this certification program is necessary," Romero said. "Better transportation is needed to make the Mexican chemical industry more competitive in the world market. We need carriers that run the latest equipment and have well-trained drivers. It is only logical that these carriers would charge higher rates. Price should be a reflection of quality."
