Oct 31, 2001 12:00 PM

International Truck and Engine Corp is planning the layoff of 400 workers at its Springfield, Ohio, plant, beginning November 19, according to the company. Employees expected to lose their jobs include union, nonunion, and salaried workers. Some may be granted early retirement. One assembly line is scheduled to be idled for a week, beginning November 5. The layoffs were prompted by a 30% decline in medium-duty truck sales.
