FMCSA amends certain HOS rules

Some changes to the hours-of-service rule that apply to sleeper berth rest and 16-hour short hauls are among technical amendments from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), according to information in the Federal Register September 30.

FMCSA published the information in response to confusion among motor carriers and enforcement officials over the provision for the use of sleeper berths to accumulate 10 hours of off-duty time. The amendments also change a rule intended to give short-haul drivers one 16-hour on-duty limit in a seven-day period.
