The National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA) is urging Congress to enact comprehensive energy legislation that incorporates necessary provisions to increase supplies of transportation fuels.

Bob Slaughter, NPRA president, told members of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Air quality that NPRA recommends Congress:

•Repeal the two percent RFG oxygenation requirement to provide fuel producers more flexibility and fuel markets more stability.
•Avoid fuel bans, which only serve to restrict supply.
•Resist calls for fuel mandates which will add both cost and unnecessary complications to fuel supply and environmental goals.
•Support limited liability protection for mandated fuel components, such as MTBE and renewables.
•Avoid unnecessary changes in fuel specifications, which limit refiner flexibility and may reduce supply.

Slaughter testified before the committee February 16 as Congress considers The Energy Policy Act of 2005.
