Runge going to Homeland Security

Jeffrey W Runge, a physician, will be leaving his post as administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to become the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) new chief medical officer.
In the new post, he will coordinate DHS response for biological and other catastrophic attacks.
Runge, a specialist in motor vehicle injury care and prevention, served four years as NHTSA administrator. He was appointed to the position by President Bush in 2001.
