PeopleNet expanding technology leadership in US energy services transport

Aug. 27, 2013

PeopleNet, a leading provider of fleet mobility solutions that promote on-time schedules, enhance service levels, improve safety/compliance and enable profitable fleet growth, announced that it is expanding its technology leadership in the US energy services transportation sector by collaborating with Trimble sister companies ALK Technologies and GEOTrac.

In making the announcement in opening remarks at PeopleNet’s 11th annual user conference held in San Antonio TX August 19-22, Executive Vice-President Rick Ochsendorf said, “Our dedicated Energy Services area is continuing to build a suite of energy services solutions to increase fleet efficiency, reduce fleet liabilities, and mitigate environmental damage by improving the safety of hauling crude oil and fracking fluids. We’re fast-tracking our product expansion by combining PeopleNet fleet mobility solutions with proven technologies from GEOTrac, the leading technology supplier to Canada’s energy services transportation sector, and ALK Technologies, a global leader in transportation technology and navigation software.”

User conference attendees learned about fleet mobility tools specifically designed for energy services, including monitoring to ensure vehicles and drivers are on the correct route for hauling dangerous materials through cities, towns from oil and gas sites. The company demonstrated the PeopleNet Energy Services Portal, which includes reporting and analytics, conditional alerting, real-time energy-specific mapping featuring North American private lease-road and well coverage, and CoPilot Truck Energy, an in-cab turn-by-turn navigation solution integrated with oil and gas filed mapping, to guide the driver directly to the well site.

The company’s aggressive efforts are in response to a growing number of customers in this sector (Crosstex Energy Services, Legend Energy Services, Missouri Basin Well Service, Nuverra Environmental Solutions, and Tankstar USA, to name a few) and the growth of the industry and its needs for reliable two-way messaging and global position systems in remote areas supported by tri-mode communications (cellular, satellite, and WiFi), driver safety in environments posing high risk of explosion, vehicle tracking to and from well sites, coordination of teams moving rigs, location monitoring of equipment, and least-cost routing. PeopleNet’s energy services already include Crude Workflow for improving driver efficiency and eDriverLogs HOS application that includes oilfield regulations.
