Quebec to begin new hazmat rule August 15

Jul 10, 2006 12:21 PM

Beginning August 15, tank truck carriers transporting hazardous materials into Quebec, Canada, must have their current trucks equipped with speed limiters or electronic on-board recorders, if not already using vehicle stabilizing systems, according to the Ontario Trucking Association. Trucks assembled after August 15, 2006, will not be legible for the speed limiter exception.

According to Quebec's Transportation of Dangerous Substances Regulation, beginning August 15, tank trucks transporting hazmat must be equipped with a driver monitoring system that records significant speed variations and relevant data on the date, time, and speed, or an electronic system for dynamic stabilization of the vehicle to assist the driver during a critical maneuver.
