Biodiesel will promote energy independence

Feb 8, 2006 8:43 AM

Biodiesel is one of a number of alternative fuels that will add to the security of the United States by helping to trim reliance on foreign energy supplies that come from unstable parts of the world.

This was the central message delivered by Stephen Johnson, administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. Johnson spoke during the 2006 National Biodiesel Conference in San Diego CA.

He said that development of the alternative fuels advocated in the Bush Administration’s energy program will stimulate new investment in US jobs and will promote economic growth. “What’s good for the environment, is good for business,” he said.

Other speakers agreed that energy independence is absolutely vital for US security, and alternatives like biodiesel will play a big role in the effort. For instance, Timothy Keaveny, Sprague Energy Corporation, pointed out that 28 percent of world oil production goes to the United States.
