Vopak, Gasunie plan Rotterdam LNG terminal

Aug 19, 2005 1:52 PM

Vopak NV and Nederlandse Gasunie have started a feasibility study into the possible development of a receiving terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG) at a location in the north-west section of the Maasvlakte at Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The search for other potential locations and consultations will continue simultaneously with the feasibility study into the Maasvlakte.

A number of major market players operating in the LNG sector have expressed interest in using an LNG terminal and in joining forces with Gasunie and Vopak, according to company information.

With the successful conclusion of the feasibility study and completion of the procedures for obtaining licenses, the construction of a terminal could begin in 2007 and operations to be underway by the end of 2010.
