The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA)is supporting the nomination of John Hill as administrator for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). If approved by the Senate, Hill will replace Annette M Sandberg, who resigned in February.

CVSA said the selection of John Hill represents a commitment toward working with FMCSA partners to reduce truck and bus crashes and fatalities that Congress intended when it passed legislation creating FMCSA in 1999.

"We are confident that John Hill's extensive knowledge and experience in the motor carrier safety and enforcement arenas will help further enhance commercial vehicle safety and reduce fatalities in North America," said Stephen Campbell, CVSA executive director. "It's important that Congress move forward to confirm Mr Hill. We look forward to working with him to help FMCSA reach its stated goal of 1.65 commercial motor vehicle-related fatalities per 100 million miles by 2008."

President Bush nominated Hill May 16 for the position. Hill currently serves FMCSA as chief safety officer and assistant administrator. He came to FMCSA from the Indiana State Police, where he was the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division commander.
