Diesel price edges down

The average price of on-road diesel last week edged down a fraction of a cent ($.003) per gallon--from $2.889 to $2.886, according to information from the Department of Energy.

This time last year, the price was slightly higher, ringing up at the pump at $2.980 per gallon. By the week of August 14 last year, the average price had climbed to the high for 2006 at $3.065 per gallon.

Last week, low sulfur diesel was a fraction of a cent higher from the week before at $2.831. Ultra low sulfur diesel was slightly lower than the week before at $2.899, a $.004 per gallon reduction.
