The average price of a gallon of diesel fuel nationwide dropped for the first time in five weeks, dipping 0.7 cents—the same as last week’s increase—to $2.801 a gallon, according to US Department of Energy information.

Diesel’s price had increased 22 cents over the previous four weeks, and this downturn put trucking’s main fuel 14.3 cents below the same week in 2008.

The biggest decline in diesel prices occurred in the Central Atlantic region, which receded 1.4 cents to $2.926. The cheapest diesel is along the Gulf Coast, where the average price fell less than one cent to $2.746. California is still the most expensive place to purchase diesel at $2.972.
