Trucking Trends report

Jan 21, 2010 2:13 PM

The American Trucking Associations’ (ATA) annual report ATA American Trucking Trends 2009-2010 is available to the public and members of the media.

Produced by the ATA Economics Department, the report provides a profile of the dynamics shaping the trucking industry and includes information about:

    •Size of the industry

    •Trucking performance

    •Fleet demographics

    •Retail sales

    •Taxes

    •Safety

    •International trade

    •Trucks and the environment

    •Diesel fuel price trends

    •US commercial truck configurations

According to this report, trucking hauled 68.8%, or 10.2 billion tons, of all freight transported in the United States in 2008 and was a $660 billion industry.

Other highlights include information about fuel prices and truck sales. Trends explains the implications of the fuel price spikes of summer 2008, when diesel hit an all-time high of $4.764 a gallon, and provides an estimate of the industry’s fuel expenses for the most recent year. The report also reveals that due to financial constraints, caused in part by the deepest recession in the post-war era, US truck sales plunged almost 25% from 2007 to 2008 and even further during the first nine months of 2009. Engine and trailer sales also fell during that time.

Trends is available in book, CD, and downloadable PDF formats. To order or receive more information, call 1-866-821-3468 (toll-free) or visit www.ATABusinessSolutions.com.
