An update on research being conducted at the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture for electronically tracking and documenting milk transportation, including tank wash data, was presented at the International Milk Haulers Association (IMHA) Convention April 20-22 in Mesa, Arizona.

Chris Thompson, a university researcher, pointed out that wash information gathered manually can be susceptible to mistakes where as electronic tracking provides more accurate data. He added that the research program sought a system that is both cost-effective and user-friendly. The information gathering system, among other capabilities, tracks wash styles, measures product temperature, records driver and vehicle data, and recognizes the types of computer systems used at processors.

An open house is scheduled October 9 to present the prototype system. The event will be at the Fayette County Cooperative Extension Office, Lexington KY.
