WTSA Places Surcharge on Hazmat Cargo

May 1, 2001 12:00 PM

Effective June 1, the Westbound Transpacific Stabilization Agreement (WTSA), ocean carriers from Asia to the United States, will initiate a surcharge of $100 per 40-foot container and $80 per 20-foot container on hazardous cargo. WTSA officials say the new surcharge is needed to offset special service requirements and costs involved in handling hazardous and dangerous cargo shipments.

The WTSA is a carrier discussion agreement and its guidelines are voluntary. WTSA members are free to adopt, modify or reject the voluntary guidelines.
