Tips to Prevent Getting Cross at the Border

Dec 1, 2001 12:00 PM

The Detroit MI Regional Chamber is encouraging commercial and passenger traffic to use these tips to expedite border traffic and help reduce delays:

  • All drivers should have identification ready, preferably two pieces of ID. A passport, birth certificate, and photo ID are the best choices to satisfy inspectors on both sides of the border.

  • Commercial vehicles must turn on interior cab lights and open all interior drapes/blinds to the sleeper area for inspection.

  • All vehicles should stay in designated lanes.

  • Medical personnel should check with department heads on special border-crossing programs.

The chamber has been coordinating federal lobbying efforts to increase northern border resources. A new task force, Northern Borders for Economic Security and Trade (NBEST), is bringing together stakeholders.
