October 4, 1999 — New railroad grade crossing penalties take effect for drivers and truck fleets, FHWA (202)366-4001.

— 2000 —

January 1, 2000 — Vehicles with MC330/331 cargo tanks in LP-gas or anhydrous ammonia service must have in the truck cab written emergency discharge control procedures for all delivery operations, RSPA (202)366-8553.

July 1, 2000 — A hose management program should be in place for operators of MC330/331 cargo tanks in LP-gas or anhydrous ammonia service, RSPA (202)366-8553.

July 3, 2000 — Operators of commercial motor vehicles have two years from this date to replace the ICC number of trucks with a new DOT number, FMCSA (202)366-4009.

July 3, 2000 — Operators of commercial motor vehicles have five years to comply with a requirement to display the legal name or a single trade name on their trucks and tractors, FMCSA (202)366-4009.

December 15, 2000 — Comment period ends for commercial driver hours-of-service rulemaking, DOT (202)366-0456.

— 2001 —

March 1, 2001 — Compliance date for in-cab indicator lamps that monitor trailer antilock braking systems, NHTSA (202)366-5278.

June 1, 2001 — Reflective tape retrofit program must be complete for trailers and semitrailers built prior to Dec 1, 1993, FMCSA (202)366-4009.

July 1, 2001 — Operators of pressure vessels must begin retrofitting vehicles with emergency discharge equipment at time of requalification, RSPA (202)366-8553.

July 1, 2001 — New and remounted pressure vessels must have off-truck remote shutoff systems, RSPA (202)366-8553.

July 1, 2001 — Pressure vessels in other than metered service must have an emergency discharge control system that automatically shuts off flow within 20 seconds following complete hose separation, RSPA (202)366-8553.

July 1, 2001 — Installation of emergency discharge control systems on pressure vessels must be supervised by a registered inspector, RSPA (202)366-8553.
