Platform opens up onboard possibilities

Dec 1, 2005 12:00 PM

PeopleNet has developed g3 Services, an enhancement to its latest-generation onboard computing platform. Patterned after the Web Services model whereby data can be exchanged openly, g3 will allow fleets to customize onboard applications to specific needs as well as deploy and integrate new onboard software applications more rapidly.

This platform will allow external onboard applications developed by a third party or the customer to communicate directly with the g3 onboard platform through the USB port. Applications can be written on any “smart” device that runs its own operating system. Currently in development, g3 will be offered in early 2006 and will enable development of applications such as:

  • In-cab navigation.

  • Expanded/handheld computing and display options.

  • In-cab scanning and faxing.

  • Integration to collision avoidance systems.

  • Tethered trailer tracking including tire, reefer, and brake sensors.
