Fred Sajewski, former director of safety, compliance, and insurance at Manfredi Motor Transit Inc, died May 21 of complications from a stroke. He was 68. A giant among safety directors in the tank truck industry, Sajewski led Manfredi Motor Transit (now known as Distribution Technologies Inc) to a record five Outstanding Performance Trophies in 10 years (1987, 1992, 1993, 1995, and 1997). The Outstanding Performance Trophy is the highest award available in the National Tank Truck Carriers annual safety contest. Actively involved in a wide range of trucking industry safety initiatives over the years, Sajewski served as 1996-97 NTTC Safety Council chairman. He also was a participant in the American Trucking Associations Safety Council.
