NTTC Safety Council Discussions Focus on Tank Trailer Safety

Jun 1, 2001 12:00 PM

WHEN MEMBERS of the National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) Safety Council gather, the topic of discussion is naturally safety, safety, safety. There was no deviation from that subject at their annual seminar April 11-12 in San Antonio, Texas.

Serving as moderator for the meeting was Paul LaPoint, who recently retired as safety director for Fort Edward Express Co Inc, Fort Edward, New York. He served as council chairman for 2000-2001. Roy Acton of Mission Petroleum Carriers Inc, Houston, Texas, succeeds LaPoint as chairman for 2001-2002. Dick Carr of Quality Carriers Inc, Tampa, Florida, is the new vice-chairman.

Steve Niswander, vice-president of safety and compliance for Groendyke Transport Inc of Enid, Oklahoma, received the 2000 Safety Director of the Year award. Groendyke Transport won the NTTC Outstanding Performance Trophy presented each year to the carrier judged to have the most comprehensive and productive safety program in the tank truck industry during the previous year. The award is sponsored by Heil Trailer International.
