NTTC, CMA Built a Solid Relationship

May 1, 1998 12:00 PM, Lee P Shaffer

During my tenure as chairman of National Tank Truck Carriers Inc (1991-92), the CMA (Chemical Manufacturers Association)/NTTC Interindustry Bulk Chemical Highway Safety Task Force published a Manual of Recommendations for the safe and efficient transportation of bulk chemicals nationwide. The Manual of Recommendations has been upgraded in the years since, and the task force continues to meet.

The Department of Transportation implemented its drug testing rules and adopted procedures to allow the general public to obtain a carrier's safety rating. On the legal side, NTTC and the American Trucking Associations were successful in overturning New York City's special regulations for hazardous materials transportation.

NTTC continues to be successful because it is a member-driven association with outstanding leadership under Cliff Harvison, NTTC president.
