Multimodal hazmat training seminars slated by RSPA

The Research and Special Programs Administration (RSPA) of the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) plans to conduct multimodal hazardous materials transportation training seminars in 2002-03.

Regulations require training (and retraining) of all employees who perform work functions covered by the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR; 49 CFR Parts 171-180). Any employee who works in a shipping, receiving, or material handling area or who may be involved in preparing or transporting hazardous materials is required to have training.

Hazmat employers are responsible for complying with the training requirements Part 172 Subpart H of 49 CFR. Failure to train appropriately may result in penalties of up to $27,500 per violation.

Dates and locations of seminars are:

  • Nov 13-14, 2002, Philadelphia PA
  • Feb 19-20, 2003, San Diego CA
  • March 25-26, 2003, Atlanta GA
  • May 13-14, 2003, Denver CO
  • Sept 16-17, 2003, Milwaukee WI
