HTIS NG puts tire pressure concerns to rest

Jul 1, 2003 12:00 PM

Hendrickson Tire Inflation System — NG (HTIS — NG) brings fleets and owner-operators an option for automatic tire pressure maintenance.

A recently introduced option for Intraax and Vantraax trailer suspension systems, the patented HTIS — NG delivers a basic, responsive system that taps the trailer air supply to maintain tire inflation up to a preset level.

HTIS — NG detects low tire pressure and alerts the operator. It responds by directing air to the tire when the inflation pressure dips below the pre-set level. HTIS — NG activates only when needed; constant air pressurization to the tires is not required.

With HTIS — NG, air travels from the supply tank through air lines inside the axle to the wheel ends. A rotary union allows air to flow from a non-rotating axle spindle to the rotating hubcap fitting. Hoses connect from a hubcap tee to the tires.

A warning light, designed to be installed in view of the driver, alerts the operator to system status and maintenance activity. Check valves help prevent tire pressure loss back through the system. Manual fill and pressure checks may be accomplished at the hose ends.

The system records low tire pressure occurrences (when one or more tires becomes low by 10% or more) and inflation activity for retrieval during servicing.
