Hoyer embarks on joint venture in China

The Hoyer Group is intensifying its involvement in China. Along with the Shanghai J Y (Group) Co the Hamburg, Germany-based transport and logistics service provider has founded the joint venture Shanghai Hoyer Sinobulk Transport Co Ltd. Hoyer says it is the first foreign company to be granted a license for transporting hazardous cargo in the Shanghai area.

The Shanghai J Y (Group) Co focuses on passenger transportation and freight transports in Shanghai. It has formed a network with 25 subsidiaries and 35 associated companies. This network operates more than 4,600 road vehicles and 280 ships, as well as a number of transhipment and storage facilities. The Shanghai J Y (Group) Co is the biggest government-owned transport company in the Chinese seaport.

Operations of this joint venture was set to begin Aug 1, 2003. According to Frank Andreesen, managing director of Hoyer China, an initial 25 container vehicles for the transport of tank containers are available. They are provided by J Y Container Development Co Ltd, a 100% subsidiary of the Shanghai J Y (Group) Co.
