Samuel G Bonasso has been named acting administrator of the Department of Transportation's Research and Special Programs Administration. This comes on the departure of Administrator Ellen G Engleman to become chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board. A former secretary of transportation for the state of West Virginia, Bonasso was named RSPA deputy administrator Nov 11, 2002.

United States Transportation Secretary Norman Y Mineta has announced the appointment of Daniel P Matthews as chief information officer for the Department of Transportation (DOT). Matthews comes to DOT from Savantage Financial Services, where he had served as senior vice-president since July 2000.

President George W Bush has designated National Transportation Safety Board member Mark V Rosenker as NTSB vice-chairman. Rosenker joined the board after serving nearly two years as deputy assistant to the president and director of the White House Military Office.
