Girard improves design of fusible cap

Dec 1, 2003 12:00 PM

Girard Equipment Inc's patented Stainless Polymer Fusible (3-SPF) uses an advanced polymer thermoplastic ring that joins the internal fusible disc with the outer ring. The four-year-old design has been further improved by adding new proprietary compounds that prohibit breakdown of the ring from ultraviolet light, wrenching, and/or excessive heat.

Everyone using fusible caps should know they are designed to activate or vent when the tank's internal temperature exceeds 250° F, whether the caps are produced by Girard or any other manufacturer. Leaving these devices on the tank during cleaning or using a hammer to tighten them will cause any fusible cap to fail prematurely.

For more than four years, the patented 3-SPF design has been available to the MC307 tank trailer market. Key features include an electropolished surface that resists tarnishing, and the 3-SPF can be sent back to Girard to be rebuilt.
