Driver shortage leads list of top 10 trucking issues

Dec 1, 2006 12:00 PM

The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) has unveiled its list of the top 10 critical issues facing United States truckers.

The driver shortage and diesel fuel issues top the list in ATRI's survey of more than 4,000 trucking industry executives. Complete results were released in Dallas TX at the 2006 Management Conference and Exhibition of the American Trucking Associations (ATA). The institute also solicited and tabulated strategies for addressing each issue.

Other top 10 issues are driver retention, hours of service, congestion, government regulations, highway infrastructure, tort reform, tolls/highway funding, and environmental issues.

ATA will use survey results and proposed strategies to better focus its advocacy role on behalf of the US trucking industry and ATA Federation stakeholders.

A copy of the survey is available at www.atri-online.org.
