Dow Chemical salutes Dupr safety results

Apr 1, 2006 12:00 PM

Dupré's operation at the Dow Chemical Plaquemine LA plant has been recognized for flawless Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety performance for 2005. The award was presented by the Dow Chemical site leader Lee Trusty and recognizes safety performance in the areas of incidents and injuries.

According to its web site, Dow set out to achieve ambitious 2005 Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) goals. These ranged from reducing leaks and emissions to increasing overall safety performance. When Dow publicly announced the goals, there was skepticism in the industry, and even inside the company, that they could be achieved. Dow employees and contractors addressed the goals successfully, though. Overall, Dow surpassed three goals, achieved at least 60% of target for six goals, and fell short of achieving 50% of target on two goals.
