All facets of the tank truck industry should be at a high state of alert to protect against potential new terrorist attacks. This warning was delivered October 30 by Department of Transportation officials attending the 2001 Cargo Tank Maintenance Seminar in Chicago IL.
Maintenance managers attending the annual Cargo Tank Maintenance Seminar were encouraged to take additional steps to prevent tank trucks from being involved in terrorist incidents. Security measures at terminal facilities should be intensified.
The warning was delivered at the request of Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta. It is part of a general alert that was issued on October 29 by Attorney General John Ashcroft.
Ashcroft and the Federal Bureau of Investigation issued the alert based on “credible” information that did not specify the type of attack or possible targets. The information suggests that there could be additional terrorist attacks on US targets over the next week.
