Appeals court upholds federal plan for Mexican truck operations

A legal appeal by several groups to stop the operation of Mexican trucks in the United States has been denied by a US Court of Appeals, according to information from the Federal Highway Administration.

Those seeking to block the Mexican truck operations included the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Public Citizen, Environmental Law Foundation, California Federation of Labor AFL-CIO, and California Trucking Association. The group filed the lawsuit in an effort to block federal regulations scheduled to go into effect May 5. The US Appeals Court, Ninth District in California, denied the group's request.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has estimated the US-Mexican border will be open to the trucks this summer.
