Stolthaven Houston, TX, quickly resumed normal operations in the wake of Hurricane Rita, thanks to careful preparations and the facility’s position west of Rita’s most intense winds.

The terminal experienced very minimal damage and no flooding, according to information from Stolt-Nielsen Transportation Group October 4.

The Stolthaven Braithwaite, LA, near New Orleans, is now capable of conducting marine movements for most products and is regaining more capabilities each day. The timing of the restoration of commercial trucking service depends on the rate at which floodwaters recede in neighboring St Bernard Parish.

The Braithwaite terminal itself weathered Hurricane Katrina quite well, with limited damage and no evidence of chemical spills or pollution. Electricity and gas utilities have been restored and the docks are operational. The recovery effort, however, was slowed by additional flooding from Hurricane Rita. Restoration of rail and potable water service is now expected in or before mid-October.
