The Petroleum Marketers Association of America (PMAA) is warning that there has been another round of fraudulent e-mails to petroleum marketers purporting to be from the IRS and should be ignored.

The e-mails promise petroleum marketers an additional tax refund that can be credited to VISA, MasterCard, or to debit card accounts. The e-mail requests social security number, credit card number, debit PIN, and other confidential financial information in order to process the refund online. PMAA pointed out that the IRS never requests this type of information over the Internet and all federal government agency e-mail addresses end in .gov and never .org. The fraudulent e-mails have a return address of irs.org.
