Jul 20, 2009 10:48 AM

The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a three-member team investigation of the multiple-vehicle accident July 15 that resulted in a fire and bridge collapse near Detroit MI.

At about 8:10 pm EDT on July 15, a petroleum transport carrying approximately 9,000 gallons of gasoline rolled over on the northbound lanes of I-75 in Hazel Park MI. Following the rollover, the tanker was struck by a tractor-trailer, which was followed by a large fire under an overpass, ultimately leading to the collapse of the overpass. Three injuries have been reported.

Senior Highway Safety Investigator Pete Kotowski is the Investigator-in-Charge and will lead the NTSB team.
