NAFTA trade up in June

Trade involving the use of trucks between the United States and Canada and Mexico rose in June 2005, compared to the same time the year before, according to information from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).
Of the US/Canada trade, trucks carried 57 percent of imports and 79 percent of exports by value. The value of imports carried by truck rose 3.3 percent in June 2005 compared to June 2004, while the value of exports rose 13.0 percent.
Trucks carried 83 percent of imports and 80 percent of exports by value in the US/Mexico trade. The value of imports carried by truck rose 4.8 percent in June 2005 compared to June 2004 while the value of exports rose 5.7 percent.
The statistics are part of the overall North American Fair Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners' trade using surface transportation that includes truck, rail, and pipeline.
All surface transportation between the United States and the two countries rose 7.2 percent in June 2005, compared to the same time the year before, to a total of $59.4 billion.
