FMCSA starts program for four-state inspections

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has begun testing a new safety oversight process for commercial vehicles in Colorado, Georgia, Missouri, and New Jersey, according to FMCSA information.
The new process places increased emphasis on safety data that is collected during roadside inspections with the results triggering a series of escalating enforcement actions designed to correct a motor carrier’s specific safety deficiency.
The new safety oversight process, Comprehensive Safety Analysis-2010, will be tested for the next 30 months. The results of the four-state test will be compared to FMCSA’s existing enforcement regime to determine the program’s effectiveness in reducing commercial vehicle-related crash fatalities.
