Highway bill extended two days

Action on the six-year highway spending bill before Congress has been extended for two more days after members failed to reach an agreement July 19.
The July 21 extension date follows earlier numerous extensions as a result of failed efforts to reach an agreement.
The previous comprehensive authorization bill expired almost two years ago and recently was extended to June 30, 2005, and again until July 19.
The White House has proposed $284 billion and has said the President will veto any bill that increases spending beyond that amount, but the Senate has added an additional $11-billion, upping the amount to $295 billion.
