Honesty best policy with drivers

Oct 27, 2006 11:20 AM

Painting an accurate picture of a carrier's driver requirements when recruiting is essential for retaining them when they come on board, said Bob Lund, a veteran driver for Schneider National.

Lund made the comments at the October 22-25 TMW Systems User Group and Vendor Showcase in Chicago IL. He was a member of a driver panel that discussed recruitment and retention at the meeting.

Lund pointed out that misunderstandings occur often with new hires, so good communication between the drivers and carrier personnel can meet those problems before they escalate.

New hires also may be put off by trainers who are too aggressive and do not treat them as professionals. "Drivers should feel that they are part of the team," he added.
