Diesel price takes a breath

The average price of diesel across the nation took a breath last week from its historical climb, resulting in a 1.6 cent drop to $4.707 per gallon, according to the Department of Energy.

However, for the second week in a row, diesel users in California were paying what was the highest average price in the United States at $5.027 per gallon.

For the rest of the United States, low sulfur diesel was slightly lower at $4.636 per gallon. Ultra low sulfur diesel also was slightly lower than the week before, but still commanded a price of $4.716 per gallon.

This time last year the average price of low sulfur diesel was $2.732 per gallon while ultra low sulfur diesel rang up at $2.819.
