Jan 22, 2009 11:55 AM

After a brief run-up, the average price of diesel fell 1.8 cents per gallon last week to $2.296, according to Department of Energy (DOE) data.

After steadily falling since mid-summer 2008, the average price rose 2.3 cents two weeks ago to $2.314 per gallon. At the same time, DOE is projecting annual average diesel prices in 2009 will be lower than the year before.

Last week, ultra low sulfur diesel followed a similar trend and fell 1.7 cents to $2.307.
