Fire destroys California biofuels plant

Mar 3, 2006 3:16 PM

The American Biofuels (ABF) plant in Bakersfield CA, was destroyed February 17 in a fire, according information from Green Star Products, parent of ABF.

No injuries were reported.

The plant was producing at capacity and was in the middle of an expansion when the incident occurred.

The fire is believed caused by methanol coming into contact with static electricity. The blaze ignited outside, but spread to inside the plant, the company said.

Some materials, including tanks containing thousands of gallons of biodiesel, were not harmed by the fire.
