Standard Website Ad Unit Requirements

Leaderboard: 728 x 90
Spotlight (Medium Rectangle): 300 x 250
Button (Rectangle): 180 x 150

Acceptable Ad Formats:
Standard Image: Animated GIF, JPEG, or PNG
• Maximum file size: 50K for all banner sizes
• Maximum number of loops: 3
• Maximum frames for animated GIFs: 4

Flash: Version 10 or lower
• Maximum file size: 50K for all banner sizes
• Maximum number of loops: 3
• ActionScript 2.0 clicktag required
• Back-up image required in JPG, GIF or PNG no larger than 36K
• Clickthrough URL required
Penton Media uses Double Click DART to serve our advertising, which cannot measure clicks without the inclusion of the clicktag. Please do not hardcode your URL into the ad.

Third Party Ad Tags: Internal redirects, redirects, Java, iFrame and standard ad calls are accepted.
• Approved vendors include DART Motif, Atlas, PointRoll, MediaMind (EyeBlaster), Mediaplex
• All others should be run by your ad trafficker for testing and verification.
• Anti-caching documentation is required.
Rich Media: Initial download for rich media not to exceed 40K; maximum additional file weight polite download max is 100K.

Custom Website Ad Unit Requirements

Floating Interstial—Common sizes: 510x425, 440x400, 400x400. Other sizes may be allowed—contact your sales rep. 'Close' button: Required. Specs as follows—
  • Must have a non-transparent background.
  • Delayed appearance of button is not allowed.
  • Should have the "Close X" text and symbol.
  • To be located at the top right of advertisement.
Audio: User-initiated only.
Lead time: 5 days
Initial load max file size: 40K
Additional weight (polite): 100K

Roadblock (Site Intro) Interstitial—Ad sizes vary, but size is 640x480. Check with sales rep.
Time: 10 seconds
File size for standard formats: 40K.
Formats: JPGs, GIFs, SWF, Java, IFrame, and most third-party tags.
Flash Spec: 18fps, AS2, clickthrough URL should not be hard-coded, click tag should be implemented per instructions in box on right—Flash ClickTag Specs.
Third-party Specs: 40K initial, 100K polite
'Close' button not required.

Corner Peel—Closed creative must be no larger than 125w x 125h pixels. Creative must begin closed. Expanded creative must be no larger than 600w x 600h pixels for optimal display on a 15” monitor.
Expansion can be mouse-over.
'Close' button must be included.
Audio must be click-initiated.
Max initial file load: 40kb
Max polite file load: 100kb

Expandable Unit—Max banner size: 40K initial; 100K polite download
Max # of panels: 4
Panel activation/closing: On mouse-over or click with clear and obvious “close” text
Max panel expansion dimensions: In general, the expansion should not exceed twice the original width or height. However, 300x250 units expanding to the left or right should not to exceed 500x250
Expand direction: Top leaderboards should expand down only; left rail units should expand to the right; and right rail units should only expand to the left.
Audio/Video acceptance: User-initiated only; controls should include “Close X”, “Play”, “Pause”, “Rewind”, Volume
Maximum video weight: 1.2MB streaming video

Site Skin—Creative should be delivered as a single image. The standard site width is approximately 970 pixels. Screen resolution varies by user, but a single image should be based on standard screen resolutions (1024x468 or 1280x1024) allowing for the site to be centered within the creative. Smaller images can be tiled horizontally or vertically but may require additional time for testing.

In-banner Video—Flash Specs: 18 FPS
Audio: User-initiated only
Controls: "Close X", Play, Pause, Rewind, and Volume are generally required.

Frames and Looping: Microsoft Outlook in Windows 7 does not support animation. If submitting animated files for e-mailed newsletters, make sure that the first frame contains the content you want displayed as a static frame because many recipients will not be able to see the additional frames.

Materials due: Two (2) business days prior to enewsletter blast.

Cancellation Policy: Banners & sponsorships require a 2-week written cancellation notice.

Flash ClickTag Specs

(ActionScript2.0 accepted)

Flash ads must come with a back-up GIF or JPEG also no larger than 36K and the clickTag to be inserted should be as follows:

*A note about mulitiple URLs in FLASH ads: To track Multiple Click tags within one banner, they must be labeled as clickTag1, clickTag2, clickTag3, clickTag4 & clickTag5. The reporting from Double Click DART on such creative will be an aggregate of all the clicks tracked across all of the click tags and can not be broken out.
