Dupre image D Innovative thinking that significantly reduced the cost of a critical repair project brought a “Thinking Outside the Box Award” for Chester Pommier, area maintenance manager at Dupré Logistics LLC, and members of his maintenance team. The award was presented to Pommier by Tom Voelkel,(on left in photo) Dupré Logistics president and chief operating officer, and Chris Gallowitz, Dupré Logistics area operations manager.

Members of the maintenance team that were involved in the project include Scottie Thibodeaux, Gilbert Florez, Ryan Kerr, and Jeffrey Richard.

The project was launched when it was found that braces were breaking in 20 of the carrier's rail hopper cars in petroleum coke service, and the side walls were bowing out. An outside contractor submitted a bid of nearly $60,000 for the repair job.

Pommier and his team reviewed the bid details and decided they could do the job in-house for significantly less. The team worked tirelessly during the summer in temperatures that sometimes soared above 100°F cutting out the old braces and welding the new braces into place.    End of feature
