Kinder Morgan to build new tank farm

Aug 1, 2006 12:00 PM

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP, Houston TX, through its Kinder Morgan Terminals Canada ULC subsidiary, will begin construction this summer on a new 2.2-million-barrel crude oil tank farm in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The farm will be just north of the Trans Mountain Pipeline storage facility owned and operated by Kinder Morgan Canada.

Situated on about 24 acres with access to 20 incoming pipelines and several outbound systems, the new facility will have nine tanks and serve as a blending and storage hub for Canadian crude oil. Service is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2007.

One of the outbound pipelines that will connect to the tank farm is Kinder Morgan Canada's 710-mile Trans Mountain Pipeline system. This system transports up to 225,000 barrels per day of heavy crude oil and refined products from Edmonton to marketing terminals and refineries in the greater Vancouver area, British Columbia, and Puget Sound in Washington state.
