Dupré Logistics LLC, Lafayette LA, hosted its Annual Client Colloquium on December 1 featuring a presentation by economist Alan Beaulieu. Beaulieu spoke about forecasting key trends to assist businesses in understanding the economy's future as well as creating actionable strategies to make the most of the ever-changing business environment.
The tactics and strategies Beaulieu discussed focused on the overall US economy with specifics in the chemical and energy sectors. A principal of the Institute for Trend Research (ITR), Beaulieu's major theme was “Opportunity” over the next five years.
In the near term, he said, the economic recovery will continue to strengthen in 2012 and 2013. ITR is forecasting a mild recession in 2014 with resumption of economic growth in 2015 through 2017. He forecast energy prices to remain strong and encouraged the audience to focus on the US employment statistics rather the more commonly reported unemployment numbers.
He showed the audience the positive trend of how the US economy has and will continue to add good jobs. Beaulieu challenged the audience to test the more negative news and forecasts coming from the media with his firm's use of trend analysis which is the basis for ITR's 96% forecasting accuracy. He also challenged the leaders in the audience to use his forecasts to take positive, bold action to successfully grow their companies over the next five years
Dupré Logistics used Beaulieu's expertise to share its “Always Forward Thinking” philosophy with stakeholders at the event. “As an added value, speakers such as Alan not only strengthen our relationships with our clients, but also allow us to come together with them to plan for the future in a very real way,” said Tom Voelkel, Dupré Logistics president and chief operating officer.
President of ITR, Beaulieu has consulted with companies throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan on how to forecast, plan, and increase their profits based on business cycle trend analysis. Beaulieu is also the Senior Economic Advisor to the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors and the Chief Economist for HARDI. He is co-author of the book “Make Your Move.”
