Price of diesel fuel rises
for fifth straight week

The average price for a gallon of diesel fuel nationwide climbed for a fifth week, rising 1.6 cents to $2.668 a gallon and reaching its highest point so far in 2009, according to US Department of Energy information.

Diesel’s price has increased 17.6 cents in the past five weeks. The current price is still $1.477 below the level a year ago.

The highest US national average diesel fuel price to date was registered in July 2008, when diesel fuel reached $4.764 per gallon.
