Vopak to expand bio-ethanol handling in England

Jun 29, 2007 12:36 PM

Royal Vopak, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, plans to expand its Seal Sands Teesside terminal in the north of England by eight new storage tanks to store and handle bio-ethanol on behalf of Ensus Limited, according to Vopak information.

When the storage tanks are completed, Vopak will have 40,000-cubic-meter (about 252,000-barrel) capacity for bio-ethanol to be distributed via tank truck and ship.

The Vopak expansion will support Ensus, which has started construction of a 400 million litres (about 2.5 million barrels) bio-ethanol facility in nearby Wilton. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2009. The bioethanol produced at this facility will be pipeline-fed to Vopak’s terminal where it will be stored and redistributed.

Vopak also is blending and handling biofuels at its London and Ipswich terminals.
