HR 4016 calling for more study of tanker rollovers

Dec 1, 2009 12:00 PM

THE TANK truck rollover issue would get more study if HR 4016, the Hazardous Material Transportation Safety Act of 2009, becomes law. The provision on tank truck rollovers was a late addition to the bill.

Section 204 of the bill calls for DOT and NTSB to report to Congress on their efforts to address the tank truck rollover issue. The report is to include recommendations for addressing tank truck rollovers including the use of vehicle stability systems.

National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) has already been working closely on the rollover issue with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration. “We've already called for vehicle roll stability devices on new tractors used to pull tank trailers,” said John Conley, NTTC president.
