Some TWIC activation now available

Dec 1, 2008 12:00 PM

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)workers already in compliance in New England ports are now able to activate their cards after the TWIC computer system was down from a power outage, according to information from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Though power was quickly restored at the building impacted by the power loss, the part of the system that facilitates card activations was affected. At the same time, TWIC program enrollment and pre-enrollments are still available nationwide, and TSA is encouraging workers to enroll.

As a result of rescheduling activations, the compliance date for workers in the ports of Buffalo NY, Detroit MI, Lake Michigan, Sault Ste. Marie MI, and Duluth MN has been moved from October 31 to December 1, 2008.

TSA will provide updates with more information as it becomes available on the agency's website, as well as through its help desk, 866-DHS-TWIC.
