DCEC Marks Production of Millionth Engine

Dongfeng Cummins Engine Co Ltd (DCEC), a 50-50 joint venture between Cummins Inc and Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor Corp (DFM), has produced its one millionth engine. The engine, a Cummins ISLe, will be installed in a Dongfeng heavy-duty Tianlong truck.
The companies also celebrated the completion of the prototype model of a new 13-liter engine being developed as part of a joint effort launched in 2006. They showcased DCEC's full line of Euro III-compliant engines, ranging in size from 4.5 to 8.9 liters.
The fully electronic 13-liter engine, expected to be ready for production in 2009, will feature a power range from 400 to 545 horsepower and is designed to be used in heavy-duty trucks above 40 tons gross weight. The engine will be capable of meeting future emission standards in global markets.
DFM first licensed Cummins engine technology in 1986, and the two firms created the DCEC joint venture in 1996.
