Apr 1, 2003 12:00 PM

Elite International Transportation Inc, a third-party logistics provider for the chemical, petrochemical, and food industries, has submitted its application to join the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT). Elite is among the first 3PLs in North American to join this program.

C-TPAT is a United States Customs initiative developed to protect global commerce from terrorism. Established in March 2002 for importers and carriers, the program was expanded Aug 26, 2002 to customs brokers, freight forwarders, and non-vessel operating common carriers (NVOCCs).

To support its mission of improving supply chain security and protecting the global trade network from terrorism, US Customs requires C-TPAT participants to establish and enhance policies to improve supply chain security practices in procedural, physical, conveyance, and personnel security; education and training; access controls; and manifest procedures.
